Environment NGOs appeal for stop to uncontrollable development in Gozo

Five environment NGOs on Tuesday expressesd alarm at the “aggressive, non-stop, and unsustainable development” taking place in Gozo. In a statement, eNGOs Moviment Graffitti, Ramblers Association and Wirt Għawdex echoed Gozitan mayors’ and residents’ alarm at the development applications on the sister island, which they said had almost doubled in four years, increasing from 787 in 2016 to 1,314 in 2020. The applications had become “an unstoppable torrent”, threatening everything from open fields in Nadur to the skyscape around the Ġgantija Temples. The number of apartments has increased by almost 300%, as projects grew disproportionately large, destroying the character of Gozo’s villages, while six-storey high, blank party walls uglified Gozo’s skylines.

Independence essential to long term recovery of Scotland: Yousaf

Top Story April 6, 2021 EDINBURGH: Scottish independence is “essential to the long-term recovery” of the country from Covid-19, Justice Secretary Humza Yousaf has said. The SNP MSP said in a speech on Monday that independence would not be a “distraction” from the fallout of the pandemic. It comes as a number of opposition politicians, including former prime minister Gordon Brown, have called on the SNP to prioritise jobs and the economy over the constitution. With independence the key element of the SNP campaign, Yousaf became the latest in a line of the party’s leading MSPs who said a referendum would only be held after the pandemic was over.

Romeo Power Enters Long-term Supply Agreement With PACCAR BELLEVUE (dpa-AFX) - Romeo Power, Inc. (RMO) announced a long-term supply agreement with PACCAR (PCAR) to provide battery packs, modules and battery management systems for PACCAR s battery electric vehicles. Romeo Power will be a battery supplier for Peterbilt 579 and 520 BEVs in the United States and Canada through 2025. The start of production is expected to begin after 2021. Seven wanted suspects arrested after tracing operation

Continuous efforts by police to ensure that all wanted suspects are traced, arrested and brought before court were successful when seven suspects were traced and arrested in different tracing operations over the Easter Weekend. On 04 April 2021, Tactical Response Team (TRT) members, deployed at Qumbu, arrested two male suspects aged 35 at Qumbu and charged them for murder and car hijacking. The arrest follows after information about a wanted suspect, who is accused in a case of murder and car hijacking at Lower Chulunca, was received. The case was opened in April 2021 and the stolen vehicle, a VW Polo was recovered. In another tracing operation, a 36-year-old male suspect was arrested in his home at Tsolo after police searched his home and found unlicensed firearms and ammunition. The suspect was found in possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition.
